ALLED Lighting Signs Fifth Dealership in Less Than One Year

Ellwood City, PA: As of April 1, 2017, ALLED Lighting Systems has officially signed five dealerships to convert their old, outdated Metal Halide fixtures to the ALLED APL5 fixture. After several failed attempts at landing dealership projects, a pilot project was created to give one ‘lucky’ dealership the chance of a lifetime. Let ALLED prove that their APL5 (area and parking) fixture can replace a 1000-watt Metal Halide with 168 watts for four months – should the customer be unhappy, [...]

Ellwood City cleans up at manufacturers’ awards

FRANKLIN TWP. -- When the Liberty Bridge in Pittsburgh caught fire on Sept. 2, commuter traffic was thrown into chaos. And Hall Industries was thrown into action. The Franklin Township-based manufacturer, which fabricates steel fixtures with an emphasis on the airline and bridge industries, manufactured reinforcement plates to repair the span. "We worked seven days a week, 24 hours a day to make sure we got the product out the door," sales engineer Scott Donley said. The bridge, which [...]

Appalachian Lighting to take LEDs overseas, license its technology

The first time Ellwood City hooked up one of James Wassel's LED street lights in 2006, the experimental device didn't register any energy usage for three days. Dom Vaccari, manager of the Lawrence County borough at the time, called Wassel and told him something was wrong with the light. “He said, ‘Give it another day,' ” Vaccari said. By the fourth day, the light had used one kilowatt of electricity, he said. Mercury-vapor street lights that were in use [...]

With New Leadership, EC Company Branching Out

WAYNE TWP. -- Blinding light blazes from a cluttered work bench in Jim Wassel's research and development office at the ALLED Lighting Systems Facility -- and just like the sun, you shouldn't look directly at it. The device looks almost as science-fictional as it is. Wassel, chief technical officer for ALLED, also known as Appalachian Lighting Systems, is testing a solar-powered LED streetlight that could eventually be installed in Australia. Wassel is testing the light to ensure that it can [...]
