Ellwood City, PA – Appalachian Lighting Systems, Inc. (ALSI) is pleased to announce they have been invited to participate in US Department of Energy’s “Reliability & Lifetime Performance Workgroup”. DOE has commissioned this workgroup to draft a set of recommendations for the industrial/commercial solid state lighting (SSL) industry, for demonstrating, tracking and reporting reliability in terms of SSL-based luminaire product lifetime. The workgroup falls under DOE’s SSL Product Quality program. The SSL Product Quality program is related to DOE’s “Lighting Facts” program, which ALSI has been participating in since May 2009.

Participating in this program will allow DOE access to ALSI’s well-documented SSL luminaire operational history and philosophy. Current members of this DOE workgroup include GE, Philips-HADCO, OptoElectronix, LiteControl, Finelite, and Xicato. ALSI’s philosophy is to design and manufacture SSL-based luminaires that are extremely reliable and energy efficient—exceeding what might be considered ‘normal expectations’ for the SSL industry.

ALSI’s founder and Chief Science Officer James Wassel stated, “Our well-documented product reliability clearly demonstrates that we design and manufacture SSL-based luminaires that are very reliable and long lasting. ALSI’s participation in this DOE-commissioned workgroup will assist US DOE in drafting reliability and lifetime guidelines that will insure the SSL industry adopts reliability standards that will ultimately benefit all consumers of industrial-grade SSL products.”
